There's a lot going on this summer for artists to get involved in.  Contests, exhibits, art walks and more, all inviting you to make and share art!

trading cardsArtist Trading Card Contest:
now through August 16
 
Muse is holding a contest for you to express yourself with 2.5"x 3.5" works of art called Artist Trading Cards (ATC's). Contest entries will be exhibited at Muse all month and displayed during the Hawthorne Street Fair on Saturday August 16, followed by judging and a swap meet for artists wishing to trade the cards they've created. First- and second-place grand prizes are an iPod nano and a $100 gift certificate from Muse. Other prizes include markers from Stabilo and blank trading cards from Strathmore. Even if you don't enter, be sure to come see the entries and vote for your favorite. The contest is sponsored by Stabilo art markers -- look for special sales on lots of fun Stabilo sets starting in mid-July!  Click here for complete contest rules and entry form.

Visual art submissions (2-D) are currently being accepted for a juried exhibition at edge of Belmont. The show will present posters, prints and other previously created works that have been creatively altered by selected artists. Acceptance is based on portfolio of previous work. To submit, please send jpegs of recent work or website url that demonstrate your style and craft by July 17 to synesthesia@yahoo.com.  One piece per artist will be shown. Finished art drop off is July 30. Artist reception and party on opening night, August 1, at edge of Belmont, 3350 SE Morrison. Sponsors, including Muse, will provide prizes for "best-of" categories.

September 26-28
The first annual Portland Art Open will be a three-day art event showcasing Portland’s art scene. The event will be free and open to the public. Sites will be throughout the city, but primarily close-in on both East and West sides. Artists are encouraged to exhibit their work in ways most appropriate to their art. There will be a detailed tour guide that includes descriptions of exhibits and photos of work.  Application is free, but must be received by July 25.  Visit  portlandartopen.com for more information.
 
sunnyside sunflowerSunnyside Neighborhood Art Stroll:
Saturday, September 27th 2008, 10am-4pm
Artists living in the Sunnyside Neighborhood are invited to show and sell their work in a fun open-house/open-studio tour of the neighborhood. cubeMuse is pleased to welcome the CUBE Gallery to the neighborhood!  CUBE, at 4136 SE Hawthorne (formerly the MuseRoom) is an artist-run gallery offering monthly group, featured-artist and juried shows as well as space for classes. CUBE's current show is "Nature3."  Upcoming shows this year include a political art invitational in September and a juried mask and hat show in October. CUBE will also offer the arts community a place to meet, teach and talk about art.  Muse will hold occasional workshops and demonstrations at CUBE rather than offering a full schedule of MuseRoom classes. thecubegallery.com

hawthorne street fairThe Hawthorne Street Fair is Saturday, August 16th.  This year's event promises to be a big one with a fashion show, band, art and vendor booths, and special sales all along the Boulevard.  Muse will host a special art area at SE 42nd with art demonstrations, hands-on family art activities, and music.  Bring the whole family for a day of summer fun on Hawthorne!
