SKETCHBOOK WALK

This month's walk will be on Saturday, September 10, from 9:00 to 11:30am. Meet at Muse in time to start our walk at 9:00. This month we'll do a few quick sketches as we walk through Richmond neighborhood on our way to our first sketching stop at Sewallcrest Park and Community Garden. Next, we'll head to Belmont Street for two different sketching stops at the Belmont Street Fair. Our walks are usually round trips back to Muse, but this month we'll disband on Belmont so you can continue enjoying Street Fair festivities.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

On September 18 & 19, 2005 Portland will host public events featuring Guadalupe Rivera Marin. Dr. Rivera Marin is a former diplomat and author as well as a noted lecturer, and speaks passionately and movingly about the work of her late father, Mexican mural artist Diego Rivera. Her most recent book is "Diego Rivera the Red" (Dec. 2004, published by Arte Publico) which chronicles his early life as an artist engaged with both the avant-garde artistic and political movements of the day. As the founder and current board chair of the Diego Rivera Foundation (based in Mexico), Dr. Rivera Marin lends her voice in support of public art and artists through international speaking tours and conferencing activites. While she is in Portland, scheduled events will include two public presentations:

- Sunday, Sept 18th, 7 pm at First Congregational Church on SW Park Ave. (sliding scale) Dr. Rivera Marin will be available that evening to sign copies of her latest book.
- Monday, September 19th, 7pm, St. Andrews Church (free presentation in Spanish)

For details about these upcoming lectures, or to volunteer to help, please contact: Dave Mazza c/o the Portland Alliance 503/239-4991
